Don't Kill Live Music

Do to some new laws, I guess a lot of live music venues have been closing in Melbourne. And, to me, this city seems similar to Nashville in the amount of bars that have live music. So, the masses got together and had a rally. Marched from the library to Parliament. There was an ac/dc float leading the way. And, lots of local bands got up and spoke and played on the parliament steps. It was my first protest. I was probably a little too happy to be there.

The World's Largest Short Film Festival

Last night I went to Tropfest. It was live in Sydney and then broadcast to the largest cities in Australia. So I sat in federation square with I guess a few thousand people and watched these 16 short films, which were amazing. They ranged from musicals--baboons are taking over the town--to a short documentary on an estranged fathers support group. The one stipulation was that all of the films had to have dice somewhere in the production. My favorite was "Fish Lips" and "The Last Roll of the Dice." The winner was "Shock."

Sun Burnt and Sickish

Well, yesterday I think I successfully cleaned my body of, well, everything. I think it was food poisoning and I have never thrown up so much in my life. But, hey, it was my first time sick abroad. So, yeah, for new experiences.

I looked at two flats today, the first was in a house with two theatre kids...which is a few two many for me....or at least it was after they said they were looking for a very non-conventional person..."let me be very direct here, we really want to live with someone very non-conventional....now would you mind doing a little dance to express your emotions?" And the other was basically a hostel.

I got sun burnt today walking the city. Which makes me happy. Sun shine on my shoulders and all that.

Here We Go Again

Ok, here we are again. I am off and you are reading my blog. Thank you so much.

I am in Melbourne, staying on the south side with my friend Mary--Edinburgh, Mary-- who is actually Aussie Mary. And such a nice young lady to let me stay with her.

So, day 2. I am searching for apartments, going to a few showings tomorrow. Not that this means much to you, but I am looking in the districts of Cartlon, Fitzroy and Brunswick. Once I find a place to live, I will start with jobs. But, it looks like it will be no problem.

Melbourne reminds me a lot of all of my other favorite cities: Berlin, Edinburgh and Columbus. Cute shops like Berlin, great culture like Edinburgh and then this random sprawling sky line and the districts of Columbus.

Im loving it so far. Just been exploring and enjoy the warmth. Mary is taking me to rock aerobics tonight.
